Testimonials about the Corporate Associate Development Program:

Dane Coalson , Industry Analyst
University of Virginia '07
Graduated from the CA Program in 2007

The Corporate Associate position offered me the opportunity to gain a wide variety of hands-on business experience. The idea of a rotational program appealed to me because I had not specifically identified what I was interested in after graduating from college. I planned on getting a job in the business world, but my specific interests were not clear. The Corporate Development program offered the opportunity to gain experience in marketing, forming client relationships, sales, analysis, producing content, and generally participating in the entire operation of a small company.

I particularly like the office environment because you interact with everyone from every department and every level of the company. It allows you to closely observe the dynamics of the company from every perspective.  Another positive for me is the large number of young employees working at the company. The youthful environment certainly helps with the transition from college to the working world.

Sara Waugh , Marketing Coordinator, Callahan Financial Services
Grove City College '07
Graduated from the CA Program in 2007

I decided to join Callahan and Associates’ Corporate Development Program because I was interested in service. While it might seem like this isn’t public service, it is to me because we are overall helping credit unions, which help the financial needs of their members. I was very interested in service, however I didn’t want to venture into the Public Sector of business. The Corporate Development program seemed right for me because I knew I needed a transition period. The six months was just long enough to help me become acquainted with the company and the industry.  It also helped me make the change from ‘college student’ to real world.

I would describe my rotations as wading in shallow water. I was able to test the water before diving in. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the credit union industry. For most professions it can take years to understand environments, however Callahan was very helpful in putting me in situations that allowed me to learn at a more efficient rate.

It was a very good learning experience.  There is no better way of learning than getting your hands directly on a project and being a part from the start.  Through the rotations, you'll find out what you're good at, what you're not, and what you like doing, and what you might never want to touch again for the rest of your career.

Currently, I am an industry analyst with a focus on mortgage lending for the credit union industry.  In this position, I talk with industry leaders to find out what strategies are being most successful for them, and spread these stories to the credit union community at-large.  I also do a lot of economic-wide research to understand the environment in which credit unions are operating.  Through the rotations, I learned how to communicate with the executives I talk with every day, as well as presentation and writing skills which are key to career-long success.

Many times as a recent graduate, you have no idea as to where you see yourself five, ten, or twenty years from now.  With a program like this, it can help you become more career focused.  It will help you gain a much better perspective of where you feel your career will be (and won't be) going.

Looking for a job post-graduation was a stressful time! More specifically, I found it hard to look for the job that fit my personal interests. As an Economics and Psychology major, I was looking for an opportunity to utilize both my financial and statistics background as well as my enjoyment of working with people every day.

The Corporate Associate program fit my particular interests perfectly. Not only did it allow me to "test the waters" in different business ares, it afforded me the chance to gain a better understanding of what I would like to do with my entire career! The hands-on experience you receive gives you a great perspective on what is expected in each business unit.
