Team
Charles
W. "Chip" Filson is an active leader in the credit
union industry and a nationally recognized author, speaker and consultant
for the credit union movement. As president of Callahan & Associates,
Chip counsels many of the nation's largest credit unions.
Chip's expertise is drawn from a quarter century of government,
financial institution and business experience. He served as Supervisor
of the Illinois Credit Union Division before moving on to hold concurrent
positions at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) as
President of the Central Liquidity Facility (CLF) and Director of
the Office of Examinations.
During his tenure at NCUA, Chip played an instrumental role in
the deregulation of federal credit unions, the capitalization of
the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, and the opening
of the CLF to all credit unions.
In 1985, Chip co-founded Callahan & Associates, Inc. Under
Chip's leadership Callahan has become one of the nation's leading
sources of financial information for credit unions.
Chip graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University in 1966
with a degree in government. Awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, he attended
Oxford University and earned a degree in Politics, Philosophy and
Economics. Chip also holds a masters degree in management from Northwestern
University's Kellogg School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969
to 1973 with tours of duty on the USS Windham County (LST-1170)
and the Naval Supply Depot in Yokosuka, Japan.
Jay
Johnson is Executive Vice President with Callahan and focuses
on the development and production of the company's financial publications
and software applications. Jay rejoined Callahan's in 2001, having
previously served as Director of Data Services from 1990 through
1994, a position in which he led the company's financial analysis
efforts.
During his time at Callahan, Jay has directed the development of
the initial version of the Peer-to-Peer software, as well as the
launch of the Quarterly Reports and Technology Survey. He regularly
presents credit union trends and best practices in key areas such
as delivery channel management, mortgage services and auto lending
at regional and national credit union conferences, including CUNA
CFO Council, Credit Union Direct Lending and National Association
of Community Credit Unions. Jay also leads discussions on strategy
and performance analysis with boards and senior management of credit
unions across the country.
Jay worked with Wachovia Corporation from 1996 to 2001, serving
first as Investments Product Manager in the Treasury Services Division
with responsibility for the development and management of the seventh
largest sweep program among U.S. banks. He later transferred to
the Global Corporate Finance Division, where he participated in
the organization of the Financial Services Industry Group.
A native of Phoenix, Jay earned a BBA from Southern Methodist University
and an MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University.
He is a CFA charter holder and holds his Series 7 and 63 securities
licenses.
Alix Patterson, Vice President of Operations, began her
career at Callahan in 1997. Since then, she has led strategic initiatives
including the initial development of CreditUnions.com, the Callahan
Corporate Associate training program, and her current role in managing
the new Callahan Center for Credit Union Leadership. The Center
is an umbrella over Callahan's educational programs including consulting,
speaking engagements, webinars, and research.
Prior to Callahan, Alix coached women's crew at the University of
Michigan during the highly successful 1994-1995 season. She also
worked for Tokyo Electric Power Company in their Washington, DC
research office. Alix is a true-blue Wolverine, with an undergraduate
degree in Japanese and Political Science from the University of
Michigan. She also holds a Masters in International Affairs from
the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins
University.
Scott
Patterson is Vice President of e-Commerce at Callahan. In this
role, he applies his knowledge of technology and business to improve
Callahan's internal processes and to assist our credit union clients
in the development of their online financial applications. Scott
started work in the credit union industry in the mid-1990's assisting
in the development of first generation credit union web sites as
a part of the Credit Union Online Organizational Link (COOL), a
multi-owned credit union service organization (CUSO). In 1999, he
was hired by Callahan & Associates to develop the CreditUnions.com
industry portal and lead new research initiatives aimed at helping
credit unions recognize best practices for their own internet strategy.
Under Scott's management, CreditUnions.com has grown to be the industry's
largest B2B portal, boasting some 14,000 registered subscribers
and over 100,000 users each month. His team is responsible for all
site developments including its newest feature, Industry Search,
the first search engine for the credit union industry. Scott also
manages the Callahan Credit Union Online Survey Consortium, a group
of 21 institutions redefining how credit unions deliver member value
through online services.
Scott is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas
where he received a B.S. in International Business and Economics
with a minor in Chinese Language.
Jonathan Jeffreys is Vice President of Callahan
Financial Services, a subsidiary of Callahan & Associates that
was founded to expand the investment alternatives available to credit
unions.
In his role as VP Jon runs CUFSLP, a CUSO owned by 40 of the nations largest and most innovative credit unions. Jon's involvement with the credit union system has been multi-faceted. For CUFSLP, Jon has researched business opportunities ranging from optimizing return on investment from the web-channel, to alternative investments, and credit union owned student lending and title insurance solutions. He is a recognized industry speaker and hosts a series of web-based seminars for credit unions focusing on investments, ALM, financial management, and risk management.
Jon's first role at Callahan Financial Services was as an account representative for the Trust for Credit Unions, a family of credit union owned mutual funds. In this role, Jon has worked with over 200 credit union investors across the country. Through these experiences, Jon has gained expertise in credit union financial performance and decision-making.
Jon has led Callahan's ventures in municipal wireless networks -- working with leading global technology companies, including Intel, Cisco, IBM, and HP, to create marketing solutions for credit unions by leveraging new technologies.
Jon holds a MBA from the Kogod School of Management at American University and a BA from Denison University.
