Charles W. “Chip” Filson
A nationally-recognized leader in the credit union industry, Chip is an astute author and frequent speaker and consultant for the credit union movement. With more than a quarter century of in-depth experience in government, financial institutions, and business, Chip co-founded Callahan & Associates in 1985.
As president of Callahan & Associates Inc., Chip provides strategic planning, consulting services, and financial publications for the credit union community. A well-known speaker on a wide range of critical industry topics, including industry trends and financial performance, credit union opportunities, and strategies for enhancing service to members, Chip's consulting background includes working with credit unions to define their mission, improve their market positioning, strengthen their financial position, and proactively address member needs.
Chip also advises credit union suppliers on product design and outreach to the credit union market and cooperative efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the credit union industry.
Chip has been actively involved in analysis and discussion related to changes to the corporate credit union system and the NCUA's Corporate Stabilization Plan.
Previously he held concurrent positions at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), as President of the Central Liquidity Facility (CLF) and Director of the Office of Examinations. He holds a magna cum laude undergraduate degree in government from Harvard; served as a Rhodes Scholar at Merton College earning a BA and MA from the University of Oxford (England); and earned an MBA from Northwestern University in Evanston IL.
